Product Focus - Resistance Equipment for Disabled Exercisers

Here are some of the latest pieces of equipment that may be suitable for disabled members at your fitness facility or rehabilitation centre.

Atlantis

The V-300 has all the functional characteristics as our NM-300 Natural Motion Series Chest Press: unique dual pivoting pulleys located strategically to provide the best motion for both pressing and fly movements; custom-made strap handles with two adjustments allowing users to choose the desired starting point; extensive cord travel allowing full extension (single arm: 80 inches, both arms: 40 inches); and a total weight stack of 205 pounds. One feature that distinguishes the V-300 from the NM-300 is that the seat can slide to the side of the machine allowing a space to place a wheelchair. The V-300 is among a whole line of wheelchair-accessible equipment offered by Atlantis. For more information, call 1-877-454-2285 extension 248 or contact info@atlantis-fit.com.

Cybex

CYBEX’s Total Access products address the exercise needs of people with disabilities by removing the barriers that can prevent a beneficial workout. The cardiovascular equipment and weight stacks feature raised iconography and color-contrasted handles to aid visually impaired people, swing-away seats and one-handed functionality to accommodate people in wheelchairs, and a range limiting device to assist those with limited ranges of motion. Work with CYBEX to customize a solution that will exceed the expectations of your facility and its members. For more information, call 774-324-8000 or visit www.cybexintl.com.

Endorphin

Endorphin’s 370 series of upper and lower body aerobic cycles feature independently operated flywheels for user flexibility. Choose from four types of bi-directional, magnetic resistance modules. The upper cycle is height adjustable while the semi-recumbent seat rotates 360º and moves forwards and back to fit any user. The seat is also easily removable for wheelchair accessibility. For more information, call 800-940-9844 or visit www.endorphin.net.

Keiser

Physiotherapy and rehab centres everywhere are realizing the benefits of air resistance for their clientele. Michael Boyle, author of Functional Training for Sports, says, “This piece of equipment will make all other cable machines obsolete.” More than 400 exercises can be performed on this one machine. The unit allows unlimited movement at any any angle. Being air resistance momentum is a non-issue, and the user can train safely at any speed. Also, the resistance adjusts in 1/10th pound increments. It is reasonably priced, fits right into a corner, is extremely wheelchair-accessible and can be set up with or without legs. For more information, call Patsy LeBlanc at 888-300-9632.
