SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Aug. 26, 2008 – The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s nonprofit fitness advocate, is pleased to announce that is has been invited to be a member of the NSF Joint Committee on Health Fitness Facility Standards. NSF International, The Public Health and Safety Company™, is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, that is the world leader in standards development, product certification, education, and risk-management for public health and safety.

This Joint Committee will be comprised of a diverse group of individuals representing stakeholders in the user, regulatory/public health, industry, and medicine/health sectors. The new facility accreditation standards are currently in the development process and will plan to contain recommendations on various components on facility design, from cleaning guidelines to court design specifications. ACE VP of Operations, Graham Melstrand will serve as a representative for the “Regulatory/Public Health” sector.

“We are pleased to be recognized as a leader in the industry that will help to establish standards to promote a high level of safety and accountability not only for fitness professionals but the facilities that they work in,” said Graham Melstrand, American Council on Exercise Vice President of Operations. “Once a facility meets the NSF Fitness Facility Guidelines, consumers should feel confident that they are working out in an environment that keeps them out of harm’s way.”
