Get Active Pass Proves Popular

CHILLIWACK, B.C. – After a successful inaugural year, the Grade 5 Get Active Pass program is back. The program gives access to all Grade 5 students in Chilliwack to swimming, skating and selected drop-in activities for free.

This is the second year of the program offered by the Chilliwack Active Communities Committee in partnership with the City of Chilliwack, School District No. 33, the Chilliwack Family YMCA, Leisure Recreation Group and Prospera Centre.

Last year 336 students of approximately 1,000 Grade 5 students registered and made over 3,200 facility visits.

“That is something to be proud of,” said Gord Pederson, director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “It is all a part of the city’s goal to increase physical activity by 20 per cent by the year 2010,” says Pederson, “and it introduces students to healthy lifestyle habits.”

The program is offered in other communities in the Lower Mainland as well as at ski hills across B.C.
