Copyright Board of Canada Requires More Clubs to Support FIC

The Fitness Industry Council of Canada is petitioning the Copyright Board to act on behalf of the fitness industry in Canada and is in critical need of your support.

In a November 25th 2009, decision, the Copyright Board of Canada commented on the participation rate of FIC members in responding to the NRCC’s interrogatories. In the order, the Board stated “that FIC’s ability to address certain issues (mainly financial) may be significantly curtailed if they cannot secure a higher rate of participation from their members.”

In a recent email to FIC’s membership, Brian Gilbank of FIC stated: “I wanted to thank all the fitness clubs who have provided a response to the NRCC’s interrogatory questions and to solicit additional responses from any clubs who have not provided a response.

As before, any financial data you provide will be subject to litigation privilege and will only be viewed by FIC’s lawyer and the lawyer for the NRCC. The more financial information we receive, the greater ability FIC will have to showcase that the proposed tariff will have devastating financial impact on Canadian fitness clubs.”

For further information and to participate in the FIC/NRCC questionnaire, visit www.ficdn.ca/documents/nrcc-december2009.pdf or call 780-732-5019.
