Cruise Ship Partners with Life Fitness

SCHILLER PARK, Ill. – Royal Caribbean International has introduced the Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ship to ever set sail. It boasts 2,700 staterooms, 16 passenger decks, 24 elevators, 21 swimming pools and whirlpools and a plethora of entertainment and dining options. Oasis of the Seas presents guests with many at-sea firsts, such as an open-air Central Park, an AquaTheatre with spectacular high diving performances and a carousel. Other on-board attractions include an ice rink and water-based theme park.

It also offers an 11,400-square-foot fitness centre for guests and a 2,600-square-foot fitness centre for crew members. Royal Caribbean partnered with Life Fitness to outfit both facilities.

“Fitness is becoming an integral part of the cruise experience, so we needed to build a facility that would impress our guests,” says Joe Schlipman, director of onboard revenue. “Life Fitness offered products that were durable, fit for heavy usage and innovative.”

Royal Caribbean installed 30 Life Fitness Elevation Series treadmills, 18 elliptical cross-trainers and 11 Lifecycle exercise bikes for the guests’ fitness centre.

The equipment features many industry firsts, such as touch-screen technology, iPod connectivity, an on-console Virtual Trainer and Nike+ iPod compatibility, enabling users to make their workouts more engaging and matching the extraordinary features of the ship.
