New Partnership With IHRSA and Fitness Business Canada

A new, strategic partnership between the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) and Fitness Business Canada (FBC) will deliver new services to fitness providers across Canada along with an exclusive registration package for Canadian delegates to attend the 30th Anniversary IHRSA International Convention & Trade show in San Francisco.

IHRSA is the fitness industry’s only global trade association, now representing over 9,000 health and fitness facilities throughout the world. IHRSA is a great friend of Canadian club operators and has contributed substantial funds to our advocacy efforts over the years.

Many prominent Canadians have served on the IHRSA Board of Directors. David Patchell-Evans, founder and President of the GoodLife clubs and of Can-Fit-Pro, recently completed a term as Board Chairman. In his speech to the general assembly at this year‘s annual convention in San Diego, ‘Patch’ outlined the role of IHRSA in the years ahead. “IHRSA will be recognized as the leading global trade association for club operators by effectively growing and serving our US membership; International membership individually and through associations, federations, and commercial enterprises with information and resources that they value; and associate members worldwide.”

National and regional association services in Canada have now been replaced by Fitness Industry Canada (FIC), currently leading the music licensing negotiations which will profoundly affect all fitness providers across Canada. David Hardy, FIC President, is also an IHRSA Board member.

Where Fitness Industry Canada is now our national organization championing major advocacy battles to both defend and promote the interests of fitness providers, IHRSA is our global window on the U.S. fitness industry and on most other countries around the world.

The newly formed strategic partnership between IHRSA and Fitness Business Canada is based on the role of FBC in facilitating new IHRSA services to Canadian club operators. Our first task has been to develop a package of registration fees and related benefits for those wishing to attend the annual IHRSA convention. Soon to follow is an agreement with the IHRSA research division which will allow Canadian club operators to participate in the new business data surveys being launched in the U.S. Canada will have its own separate database of club statistics and trend analysis that will be of great assistance to short and long term management planning. A regular IHRSA track of selected highlights from IHRSA general reports and related research as well as conference presentations will now be published in all issues of FBC.
